After a successful first attempt at a foldable with the Find N, Oppo is once again coming for Samsung, this time with a Galaxy Flip 3 competitor.

Following the launch of the Find N, Oppo is set to take on the Galaxy Z Flip 3 with its next foldable smartphone. The Galaxy Z Flip 3's success has spurred other manufacturers to consider giving the clamshell foldable form factor a shot. Huawei has already attempted a Galaxy Z Flip 3 competitor with the stylish P50 Pocket which is sold in Europe and Asia.

Motorola, which launched two clamshell foldable smartphones but took a break for a couple of years, is set to launch a new Razr foldable this year. There have also been reports that Xiaomi may be prepping its own Galaxy Z Flip rival judging from images spotted in a filed patent.

Oppo will be giving the foldable smartphone segment another go according to reports from China, and this time, it plans to launch two foldable devices. According to the Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, one of the foldable phones will have a small form factor with a vertically folding design. This description paints a picture of a device similar to Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip 3. Oppo already came after the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with the Find N, so it comes as no surprise that its next smartphone will be a competitor to the best-selling Galaxy Z Flip 3.

While there are still a lot of unknowns about the phone, the same tipster (via ITHome) reported that the clamshell foldable will be priced at about ¥5,000. That converts to roughly $750, undercutting the Galaxy Z Flip 3 which is priced at $999. It is too early to say if it will be a better device than the Galaxy Z Flip 3 or even the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 4 or if tradeoffs have been made to bring the price down. Nevertheless, the prospect of a foldable cheaper than the Galaxy Z Flip 3 is exciting news for consumers.

Alongside the unnamed Oppo clamshell foldable smartphone, the Chinese tech giant will also launch a follow-up to the Find N which is tentatively referred to as the Find N2. The phone is expected to feature an improved folding screen and will be powered by the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. It's unclear if the Find N2 will gain stylus support, but it could be a possibility given that the Oppo Pad tablet already has this feature. When it launches, the Find N2 could be priced at around ¥7,000 (~$1,045). For context, the Find N currently sells for ¥7,699 (~$1,149) in China. The two foldable smartphones are likely to be announced toward the end of 2022. It remains to be seen if Oppo will release them in more markets, unlike the Find N which is exclusive to China.
